Dancing "your body's way" is what Nia is all about, whether dancing with the group or doing your own thing, letting your body guide you into pleasure as you explore the Joy of Movement. The Gateway Nia focus for 2009 is PLEASURE. Do you want to be notified of upcoming Gateway Nia events? Just give us your name and email, above right and you will start getting our newsletter.

Nia is.......

  • A cardiovascular workout.

  • A fusion of martial arts, dance arts, yoga, body awareness and exercise concepts, taught to music.

  • A technique which teaches the participant to listen to his/her physical body, internally guided by pleasure to choose and move through three levels of intensity.

  • An experiential lesson in the five sensations of fitness: stability, mobility, strength, flexibility, and agility.

  • A way to release muscle tension and improve muscle tone.

  • A safe way to lose and maintain healthy weight.

  • A safe way to build stamina, and strengthen the heart and lungs.

  • A way to relax in stillness and in motion.

  • A way to ground and center.

  • An expressive movement program with the opportunity to move and play, to explore, get fit, and to personally develop by making a deeper and richer relationship with the body.

  • A path to first connecting to your body where the integration of the mind, emotions, and spirit produce supersensitivity to energy.

  • A practice that uses love and pleasure to promote change and growth.

  • A way to break the mold of limitations.

  • Movement that awakens awareness and body wisdom that promotes health, well-being and joy.
